Easy Homemade Bread Loaves

The BEST homemade bread loaves! The bread is soft and fluffy with a perfect flavourful crust. Make it your own by adding your favourite herbs or keep it plain with sesame seeds on top.

  • Medium

I’ve been making these bread loaves on random days for years now, having tried many different combinations and measurements I am finally confident enough to share this recipe with you all! It’s surprisingly simple you don’t have to be a baker to win at these and the results are incredible!

These loaves are baked with olive oil. The texture comes out soft and fluffy on the inside with a thin crispy, flavourful crust. Perfect for a grilled cheese sandwich, but also goes great as a tapenade.

You can’t beat the aroma of a freshly baked loaf, or two!

In a large bowl dissolve yeast with warm water. Add salt, sugar and oil.

Add 3 cups flour and stir. Add remaining flour 1 cup at a time to form a dough.
OPTIONAL: here you can divide the dough into 2 and add any special herbs if you would like to make 2 different flavoured loaves.
For rosemary add only 1/2 a tablespoon of chopped fresh rosemary leaves into the divided piece of dough.

Place dough on a floured surface and knead for 5 - 7 minutes until smooth. Place dough in an oiled bowl (or 2), cover and let rise in a warm area for 1 hour.

Once doubled in size remove dough, cut it in half (if you haven't done so already) and place each piece into an oiled loaf pan. cover and let rise again for another hour.

Preheat oven to 375 F. Brush egg wash over the top of the dough. Optional: sprinkle the top with sesame seeds.

Bake for 30 - 35 minutes. Remove from pans once complete and place onto a cooling rack.
